Meaning of Surah Al-Fatiha:

Surah Al-Fatiha is the first surah of the Holy Qur'an. The word ‘Fatiha’ means ‘Opening’, ‘Inauguration’, or ‘Preface’. This meaning itself indicates the importance of this surah. In prayer (Salah), it must be recited before any other surah. That means, in order to recite other surahs or verses during prayer, one must first recite Surah Al-Fatiha.

The numerous names of Surah Al-Fatiha reflect its importance, depth, and multifaceted significance. It is not only the beginning of the Qur’an but also the key to a Muslim’s spiritual life, prayer, worship, and guidance.

Allah is described as the Most Merciful and Gracious because He is the Sustainer of the entire universe. Hence, He alone has the ultimate authority to forgive. Since He is the Lord of the Day of Judgment, He is the only savior who can show mercy upon us in that judgment.

This surah is a deeply important and profound supplication. We are asking Allah to show us the correct path — a path that is true, righteous, and safe — the path that leads to Paradise. This "Sirat al-Mustaqim" refers to: the way of the Prophets and Messengers, the righteous and just people — a luminous path free from misguidance and deviation.

This Surah represents the essence of Islamic guidance and the symbol of constantly seeking help from Allah.
