When the Prophet (PBUH) Reached the Second and Third Heavens During Mi'raj
On the night of Mi'raj, the celestial journey of the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) stands as one of the most astonishing events in human history. As he ascended through the layers of the heavens, he met several great prophets. His encounters on the second and third heavens carry profound significance.
On the Second Heaven
🔹 Encountered: Prophet Isa (Jesus) (AS) and Yahya (John the Baptist) (AS)
🔸 They were relatives and prophets of the same era.
🔸 Both held a position of great honor in the sight of Allah.
According to Hadith: Angel Jibreel (Gabriel) (AS) sought permission at the gate. Once granted, the Prophet (PBUH) entered and saw Isa (AS) and Yahya (AS) standing. They greeted him with Salam and made du'a (prayers) for him.
Isa (AS): A revered prophet in Islam who was raised to the heavens by Allah and will return to Earth before the Day of Judgment.
Yahya (AS): A devout, gentle-hearted, and martyred prophet.
Lesson from this level: Spiritual purity, humility, and steadfastness in truth.
On the Third Heaven
🔹 Encountered: Prophet Yusuf (Joseph) (AS)
🔸 Allah blessed him with unmatched beauty and the honor of prophethood.
According to Hadith, the Prophet (PBUH) said:
“I saw Yusuf (AS). His beauty was such that it seemed as though half of the world’s beauty had been granted to him.” (Sahih Muslim)
He is a prime example of patience, forgiveness, and honesty — even in the face of extreme hardship.
Lesson from this level: The power of character, patience, and achieving victory through inner beauty and resilience.
Conclusion
The prophets whom the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) met on the second and third heavens symbolized spiritual purity, sacrifice, and patience. These meetings were not just historical events but enduring lessons for the Ummah — urging us toward moral integrity, purity of heart, and deep love for Allah.
