Hadith on the destruction of shrines
Hadith on the destruction of shrines
Those who are destroying shrines by raising the smoke of hypocrisy in the shrines or those who support them should know that such hypocrisy used to be done in the shrines of Jannatul Baqi. Why were they destroyed? Yes, they were destroyed in the name of some such hadith.
Muhammad ibn Bashar (may Allah be pleased with him) ..... Abu Wail (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that Ali (may Allah be pleased with him) said to Abu al-Hayaz al-Asadi (may Allah be pleased with him), "I am sending you on the same mission with which the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) sent me." That is, do not leave any raised grave without leveling it, and do not leave any image without destroying it. [Sunan Tirmidhi (Ifa) Chapter: 10/ Kafan-Dafan (Kitab Al-Janaa’iz ‘aan Rasool Allah ﷺ) Hadith Number: 1049] - Al Ahkaam 207, Irwa 759, Tahjirus Sajid 130, Muslim, Tirmidhi Hadith Number: 1049 [Al Madani Publication]
In the context of this hadith, some extremists vandalize shrines. Although this hadith is partial, the full hadith is given below. Anas ibn Malik (may Allah be pleased with him) narrated that when the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) came to Medina, he stayed with the tribe of ‘Amr ibn ‘Awf in the highlands of Medina.
Anas (RA) said, "He stayed there for fourteen days. Then he sent word to the leaders of Banu Najjar. They all came with their swords drawn." Anas (RA) said, "I can still see that scene." The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was on his mount, with Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him) sitting behind him, and the leaders of Banu An-Najjar were beside them. Finally, he (ﷺ) dismounted his baggage in the courtyard of Abu Ayyub's (may Allah be pleased with him) house. The narrator said, "At that time, the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) would pray wherever the time for prayer was. And he would sometimes pray in the sheepfolds." The narrator said, "Then he ordered the construction of a mosque." He called the leaders of Banu Najjar and when they came he said, "Sell this garden of yours to me." They said, "By Allah, we will not sell it. By Allah, we seek compensation from Allah." The narrator said, "What was there here? I am telling you that at that time there were old graves of the polytheists, some ruins of houses and some date palm trees. On the orders of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him), the graves of the polytheists were mixed up. The broken marks were leveled, and the date palm trees were cut down." The narrator says that the trunks of cut palm trees were placed in a line as pillars facing the Qiblah of the mosque, and stones were placed in the empty spaces between the pillars. The Companions were carrying stones and reciting rhymes: And the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) was with them and said, "O Allah! The real good is only the good of the Hereafter. O Allah! Help the Muhajirun and the Ansar." Sahih Bukhari (Tawheed) Hadith No. 3932](2341) (Modern Publication: 3642, Islamic Foundation: 3645) Hadith Status: Sahih According to this hadith, it is clear what was the reason for breaking the high graves. They were the graves of the Jews. And now the Kharijites, extremists, and militant religious merchants are vandalizing the shrines of the saints of Allah. Alas! A group of ignorant fools.
