Types of Prostration and Did the Prophet ever prostrate?

Types of Prostration and Did the Prophet ever prostrate?

Prostration is mainly of 2 types:

1. Prostration of Tabudi or worship

2. Prostration of Tahiyyah or Tajimi

There are some conditions for prostration of worship:

1. There must be intention for prostration

2. There must be tasbeeh in prostration

3. There must be ablution

4. There must be facing the Qiblah etc.

Only when conditions 1, 3, and 4 are met will the prostration be complete. The owner of that prostration is Allah alone. And the Tajimi prostration is only for the special servants of Allah, i.e. the Prophet, Messenger, Prophet, and Awliya Keram. It is performed to honor them, which is not blameworthy. In the Quran, it is mentioned in verse 100 of Surah Yusuf that Prophet Jacob (peace be upon him) and his other sons prostrated before Prophet Yusuf (peace be upon him). It is worth noting that this prostration is called Tajimi prostration.

1. In the hadith narrated in the year 8 AH on page 396 of Meshkat Sharif, Hazrat Abu Khozaima (RA) performed prostration to the Messenger of God (PBUH).

2. In the book Anisul Arwah, it is found in various hadith sources that Hazrat Umar (RA), Hazrat Ali (RA), Hazrat Bilal (RA) performed prostration to the Messenger of God (PBUH). If prostration was forbidden, Hazrat Yusuf (AS) and the merciful Prophet (PBUH) would not have accepted prostration, rather they would have prevented it, but they accepted it.

Therefore, this shows that they have full support for Tajimi Sajdah. But yes, it is completely a matter of personal preference. Whoever wants to can do it, whoever doesn't want to can't. Doing it is not obligatory, wajib, or prohibited, but rather permissible.

Tajimi Sajda in the light of the Quran and Hadith:

The word Sijdatun means to place the head on the ground, to place the forehead on the ground with the intention of worshipping Allah (Source: Tafsir-e-Kabir, Tafsir-e-Jalalain Sharif and Fiqah-e-Akbar).

In Islamic terminology, prostration is called placing the head on the ground. Because in Islam, this is the form of prostration in prayer or worship. But in Tajimi prostration, there is no intention, ablution, or Qibla. Therefore, Tajimi prostration is not an innovation. Innovation is something that is newly created. But the merciful Prophet (PBUH) and Hazrat Yusuf (AS) also adopted this prostration.

Below are 2 more proofs....

★1. Narrated Hazrat Safwan (RA): "Once two people came to meet the Holy Prophet (PBUH). They asked the Holy Prophet (PBUH) about something, and he answered them all.

*After receiving the answer, Safwan (may Allah be pleased with him) said: قال فقبﻼ يدیه و رجلیه و قالة نشهد ﺍﻟﻠك نبﻲ Meaning: Hazrat Safwan (may Allah be pleased with him) said, Then they both kissed the blessed hands and blessed feet of the Holy Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) and said, We bear witness that you are indeed the Prophet of Allah (His).
