In the Quran, Yajuj-Majuj

In Islam, Yajuj and Majuj are mentioned as a destructive nation that will create great turmoil on Earth before the Day of Judgment. Their story is mentioned in two places in the Quran, providing some details about their release and their activities.

1. Surah Al-Kahf (18:93-99):

In this verse of the Quran, the story of Dhul-Qarnayn (whom some Muslim historians identify as Alexander the Great) is narrated. He learns about a dangerous nation, Yajuj-Majuj, who were causing turmoil across the Earth. At one point, this nation, due to their actions, fell into a state of danger and was destroying human lives in a devastating manner. To protect people from them, the people of that region appealed to Dhul-Qarnayn, asking him to build a barrier for them.

Dhul-Qarnayn, with great power and the help of Allah, built a massive barrier. This barrier was made of iron and copper, and molten copper was poured over it so that they could not break through. The Quran describes this event as follows:

"He (Dhul-Qarnayn) said, 'What my Lord has empowered me with is better, so assist me with strength, and I will make between you and them a barrier.'" (Surah Al-Kahf, Ayah 94)

Thus, a barrier was created that prevented Yajuj-Majuj from advancing. However, the Quran mentions that on the Day of Judgment, when Allah’s promise is fulfilled, that barrier will be broken, and they will emerge, causing great turmoil on Earth.

2. Surah Al-Anbiyya (21:96):

This verse mentions that on the Day of Judgment, when Yajuj-Majuj are released, they will cause destruction on Earth. The Quran gives a forewarning about their release in this verse:

"Until when the barrier is opened and they will rush forth from every elevated place." (Surah Al-Anbiyya, Ayah 96)

Here, it is stated that they will spread rapidly across the Earth and cause devastation.

Character and Nature of Yajuj-Majuj:

The Quran provides certain characteristics of Yajuj-Majuj. They are highly destructive and will unite to create chaos and destruction worldwide. They are described as an immensely powerful nation with an innumerable number of people. Their actions will be so catastrophic that the entire Earth will suffer damage.

Dhul-Qarnayn and the Barrier:

Dhul-Qarnayn, who is depicted as a great ruler in the Quran, built a powerful barrier to protect humanity from Yajuj-Majuj. This barrier was a great construction that prevented Yajuj-Majuj from spreading across the Earth. Both the Quran and Hadith clearly state that this barrier will be broken by Allah’s will before the Day of Judgment, allowing them to emerge and wreak havoc on Earth.

Conclusion:

The story of Yajuj-Majuj in the Quran is an important and frightening event. Their release will be one of the major signs of the Day of Judgment, which will lead to widespread devastation on Earth. However, to fight them, Prophet Isa (A.S.) will return and, with the help of Allah, will destroy them, bringing peace to the Earth.

This story serves as a warning to Muslims, reminding them that everything on Earth happens according to Allah’s will, and ultimately, Allah’s judgment is final.
