The Prophet (PBUH) at Bayt al-Ma'mur and Sidrat al-Muntaha during Mi'raj
On the night of Mi'raj, the Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him) visited astonishing, sacred, and spiritual realms that lie beyond human perception. Among these were two significant places: Bayt al-Ma'mur and Sidrat al-Muntaha, both of which hold deep connections to the angels and the Hereafter.
What is Bayt al-Ma'mur?
Bayt al-Ma'mur is a sacred house located in the seventh heaven, directly above the Kaaba on Earth. It is regarded as the Kaaba of the angels.
According to Hadith:
The Messenger of Allah (PBUH) said, “When I reached the seventh heaven, I saw Ibrahim (AS) reclining against Bayt al-Ma'mur.”
(Sahih Bukhari, Sahih Muslim)
Virtue:
Each day, 70,000 new angels enter Bayt al-Ma'mur to worship. Once they enter, they never return; every day, a new group of 70,000 angels arrives.
(Sahih Bukhari)
It is Allah’s house for the angels, just as the Kaaba is for us on Earth.
What is Sidrat al-Muntaha?
Sidrat al-Muntaha is a magnificent lote tree located at the edge of the seventh heaven. It marks the ultimate boundary of creation—beyond which no being can pass, not even angels.
The Qur’an says:
“Near the Lote Tree of the utmost boundary—near which is the Garden of Refuge (Jannat al-Ma'wa).”
(Surah An-Najm, verses 14–15)
The tree’s leaves and fruits are extraordinarily beautiful and vast. According to Hadith, its beauty was so overwhelming that the Prophet (PBUH) was amazed and dazzled upon seeing it.
The Prophet’s (PBUH) Presence There
✅ The Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is the only human to have reached Sidrat al-Muntaha.
✅ There, he came into close proximity with Allah and received major revelations—including the command for daily prayers (Salah).
✅ The angel Jibreel (AS) accompanied the Prophet (PBUH) up to this point but then said:
“If I take one more step, I will be reduced to ashes.”
This illustrates that Sidrat al-Muntaha is the absolute limit of all creation.
Conclusion
During this exalted journey of Mi'raj, Bayt al-Ma'mur and Sidrat al-Muntaha stand as powerful symbols of the honor and rank of the Prophet (PBUH). These two places are mysterious spiritual centers of the Hereafter, strengthening our faith and deepening our reflection.
